I suppose an update is long overdue… I’m rebuilding Tumblweed from scratch.

Yeah, kinda a pain in the ass, but its turning out really good. I’m addressing a lot of the usability issues with the current version.

What will be new?

- resizable window

- just 1 window for the application (rather than separate windows for posts)

- simplified and more compact design

Lastly, a request. If anyone is interested in making a few buttons/icon artwork for Tumblweed, let me know. I’d like to get some small icons for the various post types and maybe a new logo? If anyone likes Tumblweed a lot and wants to contribute, just email me and I can give you some more details.

It figures that as soon as I release the new design for Tumblweed, Tumblr releases a new (better) design for the main site.. I hope to update to this design soon as well as add a custom resizing. I believe custom resizing has been the #1 request (/complaint) lately.

I’m also looking into some of the Char set issues.

So, it’s been a while since my last update! I’m currently working on a redesign of Tumblweed that will suport the expanded Tumblr API!

New Functionality:

Ability to view all of your public tumblelogs (and all private posts within those tumblelogs).
editing posts
deleting posts

On top of that, the redesign will be very similar to the Tumblr interface. Why? Well it is a great interface but it also reduces the learning curve when dealing with the AIR application. Screens coming soon!

Groups and Future Updates

Groups have now been added to the advanced setting. You can post to all of your Public and Private groups!

Next, I plan to overhaul the design a bit and look into doing edits from within Tumblweed using some of the new features in the Tumblr API.

I will be adding the ability to switch between your Tumblelogs from within Tumblweed.

Please send me feedback and suggestion on the current design so that I can make changes in the new design.

Last week I released a small update to Tumblweed which fixed a display issue with Quotes and some minor UI changes.

I’ve been working on adding groups aswell, which should be out in a month or so.

In other news, Tumblweed has been added to the Developers page! Thanks for all of the support.

A new version of Tumblweed was released last night.

Advanced Options
—Added the advanced options for posts which includes: Privacy, Tags and Date.
—NOTE* Posts set to private will NOT show up in the tumblweed dashboard but they will appear in your Tumblr dashboard.

Photos from clipboard
—You can now created Photo posts directly from the image on your clipboard, great for snapshots and presenting content in the context in which it was found :)
—To make this process a little less confusing (I hope), I’ve added a simple preview for photos and update the photo form. If you have suggestions for improving the form or still find it confusing, just let me know.

Updating
—Whenever there is an update available, you will now receive a simple notice when launching tumblweed. This will hopefully make it more obvious that there is an update (it is suggested that you always update)! You won’t see this until the next release.

Good things will be happening for Tumblweed!

This weekend will see the release of some new features:

Creating photo posts from images on your clipboard (I use the Macs apple+ctrl+shift+4 all the time…. I really do)!

Small previews of photos before you upload (especially helpful for clipboard photos and drag/drop).

Advanced Options (including date, tags, and privacy).

More info when the new version goes live!

First, new URL: tumblweed.org. Feel free to add a link on your Tumblelog.

Stuff I want to do in the next month to make Tumblweed more usable.

1. Make use of the clipboard. Meaning, letting people create posts (easily) from images that they have copied to their clipboard.

2. Manage and use multiple accounts at once without logging in and out. So instead of having to manually log on each time, users will be auto logged in and allowed to have a list of accounts.

…and a few other cool things ;)

Filtering dashboard, images, and a new look

The new release is now out! Same deal - if you have Tumblweed installed already you can simply launch it and click the Update button in the lower corner.

Whats New
*Well, this version reveals a new look (which is more in tune with Tumblr).

*I’ve added thumbnails to the feed for Photo posts.

*You can now filter your dashboard (Showing 20 posts - click to change). I had read a request on someones Tumblr to add an “Older Posts” button. Well this is about it, you can see up to 50 posts from any category.

*Fixed (I think!) the language issues. If you are still having problems viewing or entering posts, please let me know.

Next
I want to add the Webcam posts, which I think would be a great addition to our Tumblelogs. I need to fine tune the dashboard and design a bit more. Add the “Scribble” posts which would let you draw something and then post it.

Throw me some suggestions if things aren’t working for you or if you have a cool idea for something on Tumblweed… or you can make up your own reason.

First off, Bugs:

It has been brought to my attention that this new release of Tumblweed has some issues displaying text characters in various different languages (Japanese characters for example). I had changed the font and it had some adverse effects. I will be fixing this in the new release.

It seems that there is a bug trying to drag and drop images that have their extensions in UPPER CASE (JPG instead of jpg). This will be fixed in the next release.

What to expect in the new release:

The next release (due by Saturday) will mostly be design. The goal will be to mostly mimic the layout of Tumblr more closely so that people are instantly familiar with the Tumblweed.

The dashboard will be its own persistent window. The “create a post” pages will now open in their own windows. This will allow people to work on multiple posts at the same time or view their dashboard while they write a post.

….and a few other goodies.

Trying to think of some neat features that I can add to Tumblweed. I was thinking about a simple drawing interface so that people can sketch or doodle things (sometimes words don’t cut it?). Then you could upload that canvas as a photo post to your tumblr with 1 click. HMmmm, could also do webcam photo posts. Would people use it?
